Town Hall, Brisbane

The Town Hall is another photogenic place in Brisbane. The statue pictures a family of white settlers - Mum, Dad, four kids and a friend to help.

We were very organized: saw 10 of 37 recommended buildings and a couple more that were not recommended, organised a bus ticket for the journey through the Outback, answered all unanswered emails, bought a couple of bottles of water and a new multipack of crisps in case of emergency and were ready to leave.

Despite the fiasco on arrival, I assumed we can't get lost on the way out. Brisbane is about as big as Prague ... the town centre is significantly smaller than Prague ... we are looking for a road that will lead us towards the Bruce Highway which is the biggest motorway in the north.

It took us more than two hours to get out of Brisbane. (Guess how many wrong turns we took?) I reckon we saw most western suburbs, some of them more than once. We queried people about the right way twice .. three times ... on every other corner ... and yet, I don't know why I didn't ask any of the locals we talked to for permission to take a picture of their veranda. It is the photo I'm missing now to make the Brisbane subject complete.

Do you know where the verandas came from? It's not an Australian invention, but they say the idea was actually brought from India sometime in the second half of the 19th century.
