Kata Tjuta (the Olgas)

There is another block of rock some 30-odd kilometres from Uluru. It's called Kata Tjuta (meaning Many Heads). As well as Uluru, Kata Tjuta is one piece of rock and spreads about 50km around the tallest rock Mt Olga (in the picture).

Kata Tjuta is protected as a sacred area of the Anangu people and therefore no tourist facilities can be found there. (Although Lonely Planet being practical rather than romantic claims that there is a picnic and sunset-viewing area with toilet facilities just off the access road.)

One great advantage that Uluru has over Kata Tjuta is a waterhole that doesn’t dry up.
