The statue of Donald Bradman, Adelaide

"A $115 000 green bronze statue honouring Sir Donald Bradman has been unveiled outside Adelaide Oval, adding to the bounty of public art work in the city.

Adelaide City Council's tribute to Sir Donald - sculptured by renowned Adelaide artist Robert Hannaford - shows "the Don" in his celebrated driving pose and stands near Adelaide Oval's Victor Richardson gates.

Her Excellency, Governor Marjorie Jackson-Nelson, and the Lord Mayor, Mr. Alfred Huang, unveiled the statue in front of more than 100 guests on the first anniversary of the cricket legend's death on February 25th [2002].

'This statue is the Adelaide City Council's tribute to a man who was not only a sporting hero and great batsman, but who remains a national icon and will be revealed and respected for generations to come,' Mr. Hung said.
...
The statue was cast by Mylor Sculpture and stands approximately 2.5 meters tall atop and 1.5 meter stone plinth and weights 450 kg." [newspaper "About Adelaide"]

I was going to take a tour round the Melbourne Cricket Ground to learn a little more about this mysterious sport (the English Conservatives often claim that 'the Czechs are like us, except that they don't understand cricket' - so here we go, it's official!) There was a tour & lecture on offer for 18$ - although I thought I may want to watch a game (of cricket) before I get myself lectured on it .... the secret of cricket has yet again remained hidden from me ....
